Details & Inspection Notes

The Tohatsu BFT250DUCDA is a 250 hp, six-cylinder four-stroke built with counter-rotating lower-unit gearing for twin-engine installs, a 30-inch shaft, electric start, and a weight of 635 lbs. Its throttle and shift are drive-by-wire rather than cable-actuated, paired with an inboard support bracket and Tohatsu's Smart Start system; the listing's own steering field reads remote mechanical, so confirm actual steering hardware with us before ordering.

Built for twin rigging

Counter rotation on the lower unit exists to cancel out steering pull when this engine sits opposite a standard-rotation BFT250 on the other side of a transom, a layout common on larger center-console boats. The electronic throttle uses a gear-shift lever at the helm rather than a traditional cable shifter, which Tohatsu designed for smoother, more precise gear changes.

What ships with it

Standard equipment includes electric start, the counter-rotating lower unit itself, power trim and tilt, a fuel line hose, a charging system, a stop-switch lanyard, and an owner's manual. None of that depends on which side of a twin pair this particular unit ends up on.

Fitment

Confirm the 30-inch shaft is correct for your transom; that is a long shaft meant for larger offshore-capable hulls. See other outboard motors if you need the matching standard-rotation unit to complete a twin install.

Displacement? 3583cc across six cylinders, revving to a 5300-to-6300 rpm top end, under a 5-year warranty.
