Details & Inspection Notes

The Tohatsu MFS25CETL is a 25 hp three-cylinder four-stroke on a 20-inch shaft, and unlike many outboards in this range it can be set up either with tiller steering or remote mechanical control, with both electric and manual starting built in. At 182 lbs it sits well above the single and twin-cylinder models in Tohatsu's smaller classes while staying manageable for mid-size boats.

Flexible steering and starting

Being convertible between tiller and remote steering suits a buyer switching a boat from one control style to the other, or someone who has not finalized rigging plans yet; the same powerhead works either way. Electric start covers routine use off a charged battery, with the manual pull-cord serving as backup if that circuit is ever unavailable.

Why three cylinders at this size

Stepping up to three cylinders at 25 hp, rather than staying with a twin, is aimed at smoother running through the mid-range rather than just raw output, and EFI handles fuel delivery across that range instead of a carburetor needing periodic tuning.

Before you order

Verify the 20-inch shaft matches your transom height, and settle on tiller versus remote steering before buying controls and cable runs, since that choice determines what else needs to be sourced alongside the motor.

Cylinders and displacement? Three cylinders, 526cc total.

Full-throttle range and warranty? 5000-6000 rpm, with a 5-year warranty.
