Details & Inspection Notes

This used Tohatsu MFS50AWETL is the 20-inch-shaft version of Tohatsu's 50-hp, three-cylinder, 866cc four-stroke, electric start and tiller-or-remote steering both carried over from new. The spec sheet still lists 214 lbs, 225 with the tiller handle in place.

What carries over on a used unit

This used unit keeps the lower-ratio gear case that gives the line its low-end pull, along with an idle adjustment that still runs from 650 to 950 rpm, carried over unchanged from the new spec. A stainless liner inside the water pump housing was fitted from new for cooling-system durability, and three cylinders keep the running feel smooth regardless of hours put on the block. A 20-inch shaft like this generally calls for a taller transom than the short-shaft 50-hp uses, so that is worth confirming against your own boat.

Buying used

Full throttle remains 5000-6000 rpm on this three-cylinder EFI engine, a figure worth confirming for yourself on a test run before you buy. Since this is a used motor rather than new, check run hours and overall condition with us first, and ask about whatever rigging, if any, accompanies this specific unit before you order.
