Details & Inspection Notes

Used and rigged with a 20-inch shaft, this Tohatsu MFS40AETL runs the familiar 40-hp, three-cylinder, 866cc EFI four-stroke, electric start included, steerable by tiller or by a remote station. Weight is 209 lbs, rising to 220 lbs once the tiller handle is fitted.

A lighter four-stroke in its class

Tohatsu built this 40-hp with weight savings as a priority relative to other engines at the same output, which is noticeable when mounting or trailering it rather than only while it runs. It comes in two cowling color options, so confirm with us which finish this specific used unit has before you order one for your boat. Digital CD ignition and electronic fuel injection carry over unchanged from new, handling throttle response and fuel economy the same way they did on day one.

Handling and routine care

Holding a straight line takes less effort thanks to a trim tab and a steering-friction adjustment you can dial in to taste, both already fitted. Rinsing the cooling passages after a trip is a quick job too, since a built-in freshwater flush port sits ready on the lower cowling. This used example still carries power trim and tilt, the charging system, basic tools, a cutoff lanyard, and the manual, same as when it was new.
