Details & Inspection Notes

Suzuki's 40 HP four-stroke runs a DOHC, 12-valve, three-cylinder design displacing 57.4 cubic inches (941 cc), with a bore and stroke of 2.85 by 2.99 inches. It is recommended for a 20-inch transom height.

Steering options

Remote steering is standard, and a tiller kit is available as an option if you would rather run throttle and steering from the motor itself instead of a console. Full throttle on this engine runs between 5000 and 6000 rpm, fed by multi-point sequential fuel injection across its three cylinders.

Electrical and gearing

A 12-volt, 19-amp alternator charges while running, and the gear ratio is 2.27 to 1 through forward, neutral and reverse. Power trim and tilt are fitted as standard, adjusting running angle from the helm rather than by hand.

Propeller and service

Propeller pitch is selected from a 9 to 17 range to suit your boat and load rather than fixed at the factory, and the oil pan holds 2.9 quarts for routine service. A solid-state direct ignition module fires each cylinder electronically, with no points or distributor to adjust over time, which keeps scheduled maintenance simple and predictable.

Can it be run with a tiller instead of remote controls? Yes, a tiller kit is available as an option. What transom height does it need? 20 inches is recommended.
