Details & Inspection Notes

The BF200DXRA is Honda's plain-finish, standard-rotation 200 hp outboard: a 25-inch shaft, remote mechanical steering, electric start, and a 613-pound weight around the same 3583cc, six-cylinder EFI engine used across this group, full throttle running from 5000 to 6000 rpm.

Where this one fits

Without the counter-rotation gearing or white cowlings Honda builds on other 200 hp versions, this is the straightforward choice for a single-engine boat rather than a twin-engine rig that would need opposite-turning propellers on each side. The 25-inch shaft calls for a taller transom than the shorter 200 hp option in this lineup, so measure first.

What comes with it

No frills here: a charging system, switch-adjustable trim and tilt, and a cooling-passage freshwater flush, rounded out by the printed manual. A propeller is sold apart from the motor, so plan for that separately when budgeting.

Care to plan for

As with any new outboard, give it a proper break-in period before leaning on full throttle for long stretches, and run the freshwater flush port after every trip in saltwater so the cooling passages stay clear of buildup for the long run. Electric start means there's no pull cord to fall back on, so keeping the battery charged matters.

Does this motor have counter rotation? No. Is steering handled by a tiller? No, remote mechanical, for a wheel setup.

Startup & Installation Checklist

  • Inspect all external gaskets, seals, spark plugs and timing components prior to installation.
  • Refill engine oil, transmission gear oil and coolant to manufacturer-specified capacities before initial cranking.
  • Prime the lubrication system and verify ECU wiring pinouts, sensors, and ground connections.
  • Startup warranty covers internal lubricated components, cylinder heads, and engine block for 30 days from delivery.
