Details & Inspection Notes

Honda's BF15D3SHT builds on the 15 hp, 15-inch-shaft tiller outboard by adding power tilt, which is a large part of why it weighs 129 pounds against the lighter version of this motor. The two-cylinder, 350cc engine underneath stays the same: carbureted, topping out between 4500 and 5500 rpm at full throttle, with electric starting backed by a manual pull cord. It ships new, under Honda's 5-year warranty.

Why power tilt matters here

Raising and lowering the motor from a switch instead of hauling on a hand lever pays off most if you trim often, trailer the boat regularly, or need to kick the engine up fast in shallow water. Tiller steering is unchanged, so the throttle grip and gear shift stay on the motor handle rather than moving to a remote console.

Checking the fit

Fifteen inches remains the shorter option Honda builds for this 15 hp line; confirm your transom depth before buying, since a shaft that's the wrong length for the hull leaves the propeller riding too high or too low underway.

What comes in the box

Standard equipment runs to a fitted propeller, the charging system, a fuel tank good for 3 gallons mounted outside with its own line, the power tilt hardware, a lanyard kill switch, and the printed manual.

Is there a backup for electric start? Yes, a manual pull cord. Does the shaft length match the version without power tilt? Yes, both use 15 inches.
