Details & Inspection Notes

Honda builds the BF150DXCRA as a 150 hp counter-rotating outboard, mounted on a 25-inch shaft with remote mechanical steering, to serve as the opposite-turning partner engine in a twin-outboard install.

Counter-rotation notes

A counter-rotating lower unit turns the propeller the opposite direction from a standard motor, which keeps a twin-engine boat tracking straight once this unit is paired with a standard-rotation engine of matching output rather than another counter-rotating one. Confirm your other motor's rotation before you order; this model's shaft measures 25 inches.

Power and controls

Fuel runs through EFI to a four-cylinder, 2354cc block, with electric starting and a full-throttle range Honda lists between 5000 and 6000 rpm. Remote mechanical steering ties into a cable-and-wheel helm setup rather than a tiller handle at the stern. Weight is 478 lbs, a touch more than the shorter-shaft version Honda builds at this horsepower, owing to the longer leg, and that extra length is the main thing to account for when sizing a splash well or jack plate.

What's included

This package includes the counter-rotation lower unit, a battery-charging system, switch-operated trim and tilt, and a port for flushing the block with fresh water, plus the printed owner's manual; Honda does not include a propeller, so order one suited to counter-rotation. Coverage runs 5 years from Honda.
