Details & Inspection Notes

This new Honda BF150DJRA is a jet-drive outboard: a 150-hp, four-cylinder four-stroke engine fitted with a jet lower unit in place of a propeller, rated at 105 hp measured at the pump itself.

Why a jet lower unit

Swapping the propeller and gearcase for a jet pump lets this engine run through shallow or debris-filled water where a conventional lower unit would be at risk, which is part of why the rated output drops to 105 hp at the pump against 150 hp at the engine itself.

Engine and rigging

Displacement is 2354cc, this engine runs up to 6,000 rpm at full throttle, and the package comes in heavier than Honda's non-jet models at 478 lbs, mounted on a 20-inch shaft. Remote mechanical steering and electric start round out the helm side of this rig.

Warranty and inclusions

Honda's 5-year warranty backs this motor, and the jet lower unit, a charging system, a freshwater flush setup, trim and tilt, and an owner's manual are all part of the package.

Where a jet model fits

Running skinny rivers, flats, or rocky shorelines on a regular basis makes the tradeoff in pump-rated output worth it for the protection a sealed jet lower unit offers over an exposed prop.

Does this have a propeller? No, it runs a jet lower unit instead.

What's the shaft length? 20 inches.
