Details & Inspection Notes

The 2019 Yamaha T25LWTC is the High Thrust variant of this 25 hp four-stroke family, built with lower-unit gearing meant to move more boat per horsepower rather than chase top speed. It carries remote mechanical steering and dual electric-and-manual starting on a 20-inch shaft, at 141 pounds.

Where High Thrust pays off

Heavier pontoons, loaded bass boats, and hulls running a larger-diameter propeller are the typical candidates for this gearing, since the tradeoff is usually a lower top speed in exchange for stronger push getting up on plane or holding against current. A light runabout generally doesn't need it.

Setting it up

A 20-inch shaft needs to suit your transom, and your console should already run a steering cable back to the motor, since there is no tiller option on this configuration. Having both electric and manual starting means a dead battery won't leave you stuck on the water.

Engine

Two-cylinder, 432cc, EFI.

Matching the propeller

High Thrust lower units are usually paired with a larger-diameter, more aggressively pitched propeller than a standard F25 would carry, so if you're moving a prop over from another motor, check that it's actually suited to this gearing rather than assuming any F25 prop will do.

Common questions

Is this faster or slower than a standard F25? Slower at top speed typically, stronger at pushing a loaded boat.

Is it a new unit? Yes, with Yamaha's factory coverage for new outboards.
