Details & Inspection Notes

The DF20AS EFI takes Suzuki's 20 hp battery-less EFI engine onto a shorter transom than the AL trim, and opens up both manual and electric starting as options. Manual start weighs in at 97 pounds; electric runs 106.

Before you order

This short-transom version is built around a 15-inch mounting height, so measure before buying. Decide ahead of time whether you want the simplicity of a pull cord or the convenience of push-button starting, since the hardware and shipped weight differ between the two.

Inside the engine

Like its AL sibling, this engine reaches a recommended 5300-6300 rpm, with lean-burn electronic injection standing in for a carburetor at every point in that range. A 9.25-inch propeller with a 10-inch pitch does the work at the stern, and over-rev and low oil pressure protections carry over from the rest of this engine family.

Suzuki rounds out the package with a tool kit, an owner's manual, an aluminum propeller, and the 3.1-gallon tank and fuel line, with three years of coverage behind the motor.

What transom height suits this shorter trim? 15 inches.

Does choosing electric start change anything besides starting itself? It adds the weight of the starter and battery wiring, but running, shifting and steering work the same way regardless of which start type you pick.

Either way, this is the same basic 2-cylinder platform used throughout Suzuki's 20 hp range, just mounted on the shorter transom height, so maintenance parts and service intervals line up with the longer-shaft version of this engine.
