The 2017 Tohatsu MFS15DL is a rope-pull, manual-start version of Tohatsu's 15 HP four-stroke, built on a 20-inch long shaft for boats needing auxiliary power or a dependable kicker without relying on a battery.

Manual start, optional charging

Because this model starts on the pull cord rather than a key, there is no battery to maintain between trips. An alternator can be added, but it is a separate, optionally installed component rather than standard equipment, so weigh whether charging capability matters for the intended use before ordering.

Engine and drivetrain

The carbureted, two-cylinder powerhead displaces 351cc, is rated for saltwater use, and drives a three-blade aluminum propeller at a 2.15:1 gear ratio. Tiller steering and manual trim and tilt are standard, and the 20-inch shaft suits boats with a taller transom than the short-shaft MFS15DS. This is the same base engine used across the 2017 15 HP line, just paired here with rope-pull starting and a longer shaft.
